Lake Winnipesaukee

Lake Winnipesaukee is one of the most popular summer destinations in America. This special place offers spectacular sunsets, sandy beaches, and of course, great boating and sailing.

The largest lake in New Hampshire, “The Winniper” covers 69 square miles and touches eight Lakes Region towns. There are over 250 islands on Lake Winnipesaukee and several, like Governors Island in Gilford, are accessible by bridge, while the majority are boat access only. These islands are an essential part of the Lake Winnipesaukee community and attract thousands of visitors in the summer.

The Islands of Gilford

The village of Gilford sits on the edge of Lake Winnipesaukee and the town also consists of 20 islands. With the exception of Governors Island, these islands are only accessible by boat. Island living in Gilford provides residents with a unique sense of privacy and serenity.

Governors Island

Governors Islands is the largest of Gilford’s islands and the only one connected to the mainland by bridge. The island is about 504 acres and consists almost entirely of residential homes; there are no condos, apartments or commercial properties. Residents of Governors Island are all part of the Governors Island Club, which gives them to access local tennis courts, beaches, a network of nature trails, and more.

Bank of NH Pavilion

The Bank of NH Pavilion is an amphitheater located in downtown Gilford. This spectacular outdoor venue seats about 8,000 and hosts summer concerts featuring some of the country’s most popular artists.
